Don Lindner's 1967 Magarey Medal Certificate, The 1967 Magarey Medal and the proud Don himself.
Don Gilbourne holding his 1958 National Football Centenary Carnival participation certificate
Ian McKay stretchered from the ground v Port circa mid 50s after being tunnelled by a Port player - Doc Boer on extreme left.
Kenny Francou in a stoush with a Norwood supporter at Norwood Oval circa early 1970s - Doc Boer is trying to usher him away as Ken's bro Maurie (in the background) is about to go and knock the bloke's head off - Ken had just serioulsy injured his knee and is walking off around the boundary.
Hilly (state player Trevor Hill) being escorted from the ground by Patto, head trainer John Inge and Doc Boer after being pole-axed against Central at Prospect in mid 1975, Hilly had kicked 4 or 5 goals early in the game when a Centrals player ALLEGEDLY hit him high and broke his jaw.
The story goes that that George McInnes caught up with the said player later in that game and then the next week against Westies one of their enforcers finished the job. Apparently the said player never played footy again.
Left - A photo of the newly opened enlarged Memorial Hall. It was officially opened on Friday 18th October 1967 (over 42 years ago) and was described at the time as "Our modern new kitchen has been acclaimed by experienced caterers as second to none in Adelaide. The enlarged Memorial Hall, with a heating and cooling system, is eagerly sought after for social functions. The bar facilities are a creadit to any organisation. This includes a magnificent carpeted Ladies Lounge."
Right - The new NAFC Footballers' Club Bar from the same time.
1952 NAFC Premiership Player Lyall Griffin receiving the O'Halloran Memorial Trophy for SA's BOG in the State game against Victoria at Adelaide Oval on July 19th 1952. He was also runner up for the Magarey Medal to Len Fitzgerald in 1952.
Malcolm "Berserk" Kirk talking to John Condon at training at Prospect Oval circa 1975/6
What's going on here? All I know is that it is North champion Percy Furler on the right.
No comment necessary other than "The Space Shuttle defies gravity". What a mark!

Great stuff. In relation to that photo featuring Percy Furler against Sturt - I'm pretty sure in days gone by they would, on occasion, have guests starting the game with a bounce. I'm pretty sure I've seen one with a governor doing just that sometime in the 1920s. Obviously it wouldn't have gone very high!
Also I'm guessing, but the gentleman in this shot looks like the famous Australian singer Peter Dawson who was from Adelaide. Don't know if he was a North man. |

Sorry to disappoint you CFY but the so called mark of Grenville`s was not so as I am pretty sure he dropped it and it was reported as being " THE LEAP OF THE YEAR".
It was still a mighty effort by the big fella though. |

Great photos CFY, especially the ones including Doc Boer.
I used to be part of a group that included Ted and his sister Nance, and Ross Roberts and his son Craig from the mid 70's through to the early 90's. We stood on the grandstand wing.
Great memories. |

Do you have any expanded story on this one, I would like to know more..........if possible.

Also there was a rule whereby the opening bounce of the game could be smothered. Not sure how that worked but it was the rule of this era.
Also I think the North player over Perc's shoulder is Jack McKay a champion North wingman of the era who later went to South. _________________ "John Earle would be eagerly snapped up by any of the other twenties." |

About half of them. I love that one of Furler but I'm a sucker for shots from the 30's!
I also love the one of the Francous. Proof once and for all how stupid some Norwood supporters can be. I mean taking on the Francous!!! _________________ "John Earle would be eagerly snapped up by any of the other twenties." |
