I reckon the team who plays in the Prelim Final needs the game to be on a Sunday to have a full week break after a tough match. When it falls on the long weekend it works out well, when it doesn't like this year it would suck for most supporters who want to have a big day and/or night (unless you're like me and have 2 weeks holidays Cool ).

The SANFL just have to bite the bullet and play the GF at Adelaide Oval next year under lights on a Saturday night, I've spoken too many people who think this is a good idea & would more likely attend. The only downside is that celebrations would be very late, but if you win who cares and at least most won't have to work the next day like they do this weekend anyway. Lets face it 25000-30000 at the Adelaide Oval would be a super atmoshphere rather than the 25000 empty seats at AAMI. I know the SANFL are bitter with the SACA, but for the good of the comp it has to be at least tried. I think they're starting to face facts anyway now with all finals this year except the GF now at Adealide Oval.

Its a shocking idea, you've got to remember there was 2 SANFL GF sell outs in the late 90s and the only reason there's been poor crowds since is mainly because of the club/s involved. Adelaide Oval is a shocker with 20,000 in it, I have no idea how you'd fit 40,000+ in there.
Great idea if it was Central v Eagles every year but its not going to be (well I hope).

Disagree. Two well supported clubs can easily pull 35. The western stands at adelaide are old and uncomfortable.

It is a farce you can't drink beer in ur seat at footy park

Common sense my good friend, play the week befores games on the Saturday.
Stuff the AFL and it only works out about once every decade that a Saturday arvo game coincides with a Cows final.

Wedgie our second week of finals cannot be on saturady as it clashes with the satdy arvo afl prelim.

Who cares?
Most years it'll be a game like Sydney v St Kilda and even then in the past a lot of prelims have been on Fri and Sat nights.

ever since brisbane geelong 04 the afl wont play sat night prelims cos of 24 hours less rest when matthews made a big deal of them travelling when they shouldnt have and less prepartation time compared to the arvo game when u can fly home that night.

day prelims occured 9 out the last ten years geelong bris 04 the only exception

Yeah but as I said, it'd only be an issue once every decade (if that if you look at the odds) for the Crows to be involved.

The calendar suggests there is only 6 out of 7 would be played on the long weekend so having the game on a sunday shouldnt matter

Plus Friday night as Adelaide Oval in sept is bloody freezing and with anything over 8000 the only winner would be the Adelaide City Council

Mind you 3-10 start on a sun for gf means the seats are pretty chilly come 5-30 and the seagulls have already tried to land and those in the outer cant see for the sun

Answer to crowd nos is to make it cost effective $22 a head is a bit rich for someone who doesnt have a vested interest plus $3-60 plus for a coke, chips or hot dog of for a child all 3

Make it two adults two children / can be a tad expensive wwhe you cn still watch it at home on 15 min delay

They can bulldoze Nazi stadium for all I care, the place sucks, I can (nearly) understand not being able to have a smoke in a all seated stadium, but surely I could have a beer in my seat, the kids could have a kick at 1/4 & 3/4 time (goes for Adelaide as well), U18's should be allowed out to help hold up a banner, christ, banners and cheer squads, it's (or should be) all about the kids.
AAMI would have to be the least "fan friendly" stadium in the country, I wish it would just sink into the swamp.
