Rampaging Roosters Demolish South!
Are we back? That was the question most people were asking after a 99 point demolition of a very inept South Adelaide on Saturday. North were good but South were woeful but as the old saying goes you're only as good as the opposition lets you be!
North set the scene early in the day kicking 7 goals in the first quarter, despite making some errors the two teams were like chalk and cheese with South looking as flat as a pancake. The score line could have been anything if North had won the centre clearances (it lost those 22 to 13!) showing that there's still areas to work on and improve if we're to beat the top teams.
Damon White starred all day taking 11 strong grabs (most contested in packs) to compliment his 27 possessions and 5 goals. Damon looks like he really enjoys himself when playing with North and hopefully for us and Damon he continues to lineup in the red and white for a few weeks yet! The Power listed forward had many mates as not one player was beaten in his position.
Despite the lack of competition there were some really good signs from the match including the continuous improvement of our younger players as well as players like Tubby and B.White who looked back at home in the league side, I loved Tubby's game.
Ivens and McIntyre looked back close to their best,
O'Brien and Archard were both fantastic (State Squad member and Magarey Medalist Allan was his usual great self).
Even before today O'Brien was leading things like the hard ball gets and shepherds that are the stats that Jars counts as the most important.
Walker looks the goods, he's very good at creating space and doing unnoticed 1 percenters.
Highlight of my day was Clinton Alleway's gutsy smother when the game was already 90+pts over which caused a turnover and a goal to North, that guy never ceases to amaze me in all facets of his game. Alleway has been absolutely sensational up forward for North this year and is a shoe in for the Centre Half Forward position for the upcoming state game versus Victoria. Ironically the last state game he was involved in was as the captain for Victoria in a narrow loss to SA at Port Melbourne. Let's hope he can be on the winning side this time!
A few players that have copped criticism before are getting better and better every week showing their character. The question to be asked, who would all the people who were critical about Schueys removal drop from today's game to make way for him? It's hard to see many (if any at all) changes happening this week for the benchmark match against Glenelg at Glenelg on Saturday. Hopefully the selectors in coming weeks will have their work cut out for them with stars to come into the side from injury including Ladhams, Ward and Clarke.
