Dismal performance at the Bay

North wasted their time in travelling down to Glenelg on Saturday, mind you we do have an amazing sort of gameplan (if we have one) that allows us to kick 18 goals and never being in the game of footy.
A real shame seeing as such a large crowd made it out to watch during the SANFL's rivalry round which saw over 20,000 people attend games on the weekend. Even with the extra weight of elongated Miss Universe like advertising on their sashes that completely desecrate the Bays guernsey they still managed to kick 22 goals.

Most who look at the stats that weren't at the game would be forgiven for thinking there was a gale blowing to the Northern End of Glenelg Oval during Saturday's game. This wasn't the case, the  explanation for so many goals at that end was that Glenelg kicked that way to start with so put the foot down for a big lead and eased off allowing North to score some junk goals in the second quarters. This was replicated in the last half with Glenelg getting out of second gear only when North started to draw close.  A 27 point win it may be on the scoreboard but all there were well aware of the massive gap between the two sides.

Whilst the coach was enjoying lots of goals being scored in the non contest and spending time getting reported for abusing umpires that gave us 6 more frees than the opposition North were comprehensively hammered in most positions around the ground. Our ability to win the ball and go forward when the match was there to be won was non existent, Mark Mickan obviously reading North's style of play (and apparent game plan) easier than an experienced orator could comprehend a Year 2 ABC book.

Positives from the game? Some players stood up but most didn't when it counted, having said that Heath Younie continued his strong start to the season trying to inspire his team mates with 5 goals but unfortunately only having his game rub off  on some occasionally. Matthew Wright stands up week in week out putting his small frame in the line of fire showing his more experienced team mates how to do it, especially the one who in front of many pulled out of a contest down the southern end that all down that end will never forget. After what Matty Wright has been through and to have an interrupted preseason and play like he is at the moment is a huge credit to himself, good luck in getting drafted by a good team (ie Geelong's the only one) next year Matty! Jimmy Allan despite not playing 4 quarters was all class kicking the goal of the day at the southern end to which one silly wag quipped "At least we're the morale victors with a goal like that". Damon White continued to try his guts out all day, his attitude and enthusiasm when playing for the Roosters is fantastic whilst Trent Sporn was one of the few who stood up in defence.

Where to now? Well, we do have some players to come back from injury but players like Schubert, Gill and Wade Thompson should be automatically selected for this week if the selection panel has any idea about the game and hopefully players like Ward and Clarke aren't too far away down the track. Get rid of anyone that shirks contests too, ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!

See yas at Prossie this week, a loss to Norwood  could see the return of the black plastic!
